I remember when I saw santa.

Merry Christmas, Joyous Kwanza, Happy Hanukah, & Happy Holidays

Today is the day children wake their parents run to the Christmas tree and un wrap all their presents. When I was a child this was heaven for me. The anticipation of running to the tree, unwrapping my presents, the waiting to touch and feel every toy….This was the day I lived for.

Today I would like to relive my favorite Christmas memories:

1)      I was in the 1st grade. I woke up and I find a Nintendo Entertainment System set up in my family’s living room with a brand new TV for my room. It looked like Santa tested out Super Mario Brothers for me!
Later in my life, I found out Santa was my dad and he was up two hours before me playing my Nintendo.

2)      This super vivid memory of me in bed late at night I look out the window and I see Santa Claus and his 8 tiny reindeer flying saying “Merry Christmas to all and To All a Good Night.” I swear it was real. It was such a vivid and detailed experience. Weather it was my over active imagination, me half asleep dreaming, what ever it sounded and looked real. It made me hold on to the belief that Santa was real for years.

3)      The day I asked my Dad to put my Optimus Prime Stickers on my Transformer for me but he said, ”You can do it yourself.” It was a bad half ass job but it made me feel like a grown up cause I got to fix my  own toys. It also taught me a valuable lesson… learn to read and read the directions that come with the toy.

4)      Playing Santa Claus for the first time at Poko Loko. The torch was passed to me. It was a wonderful experience I enjoy to this day.

Enjoy the holiday, I hope you will be with the people that you love and make more Christmas memories. I’m now going to enjoy playing my new video game on the Nintendo Wii.

Election Day. Don't forget to vote

Election Day! Don't forget to vote. I'll be at my polling place at 6 am. I want Barack Obama to win but please vote for who ever you think is the best for the United States.

Last night I turned in 25 cell phones that will move me closer to my goal raising $4,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If you want to make a small tax deductible donation go to my fundraising website at http://etools.teamintraining.org/Etools/?ProgramGroup=tnt

Today I might go running for 45 minutes instead of going to Spin Class in Schaumbing. Instead of Spin Class I might go the Obama Rally in Chicago. I don't have a ticket to get into the main area but it's a great way to celebrate the greatest nation in the world.

Football Squares for Cancer Research

If you haven't heard I'm riding 109 miles on my bike for victims of Leukemia & Lymphoma this November. I have 2 goals:
  1. Raise $4,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
  2. Finish The Tour De Tucson 109 mile bike Ride this November
The great coaches and participants of Team in Training are doing a great job helping me reach my second goal. Here is how you can help me with my first goal.
  1. Donate $2, the price of a cup of coffee, on my fundraising website then pass the link to your friends and family and ask them to donate.
    The address is http://pages.teamintraining.org/il/tucson08/rdobroski.
  2. Send me your old cell phone. There is a company that will send me a donation for old cell phones. If you have one lying around send it my way. It will either get refurbished or recylced .
  3. Play my Bears football squares game. Each square is a $1. The winner can receive up to $50 and the other $50 will go to fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

In 2002 my dad was diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to great doctors and medicine he is with me today. I hope with my fundrasing others loved ones will be saved and not be put through the pain I saw my dad go through. Money that is donated goes to cancer treatment research and outreach programs to help cancer victims.

For more information visit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society website.

Good Luck to all you Chicago Marathoners!

I'm jealous of all you marathoners.

If you're a first time participant of this wonderful event your in for the time of your life. If you ran the Chicago marathon before or any marathon before you know what I'm talking about.
The thrill of running down the streets of your home town. All your friends and family cheering your on every mile. I'm defiantly jealous of all of you marathoners this Sunday.

I want you, marathon runner, to stay happy. There will be a point in the race were you will be in pain, tired, and will want to rip off the head of the next person that says, "You're almost there." I want you to stay positive, keep a smile on your face and keep pushing.

Someone once told me the story of a little boy named Kegan. Kegan unfortunately lost his life to cancer. His mother addressed my running team and told us he always kept a smile on his face even when he was going through his chemo and radiation therapy. She told us a doctor once asked him how he staid so happy and positive. Kegan replied, "You can be happy or your can be miserable either way the distance is the same."

I took that quote to heart. I tell myself every time I go out for a long endurance training. Imagine how a little boy who is spending his time in hospital can say that. He knew he had a long journey before him and made a conscious effort to stay happy.

You, marathoner, for a few hours you will be in pain. Just remember if you have 20 miles to go or even .2 miles, keep positive, because either way...your still running 26.2 miles no mater what. So stay happy, if you have the energy give me a smile at mile 23 and give me a high five.

Good Luck, and Rock and or Roll!

Sorry White Sox Fans Join the "Maybe Next Year" Club

Let me get this out of the way I am a Chicago Cubs Fan. I'm not a diehard fan.  I'm not a season ticket holder.  I don't know every stat.  I'm a Cubs fan none the less.

When I have a choice to listen to a baseball game on the radio I tune to WGN 720 AM. I drive around with a Cubs licence plate frame on my car year round. I own Cubs gear. I have a iPod Playlist with Cubs Songs. My first baseball game was at Wrigley Field. I had my first beer when I was 20 in the bleachers at Wrigley Field. I brought my friend to a Cubs Game for his bachlor party. Suffice to say I love the Cubs.

It hurt when the Cubs lost on Saturday Night. I was hurt. Cubs fas were hurt. This was it. Were going to break 100 years. I was frustrated. I avoided news coverage for the next two days to avoid the Media Coverage of the "Curse."

Like your own children, no matter what happens you always love them. Next year I plan on taking my god son to his first Wrigley Field Game. I plan on seeing a game from the Wrigleyville rooftops with my best friend. I look forward to warm weather and listening to Pat and Ron on the summer camp bus.

So The Cubs are out of the pennant race. What do I do? I was going to root for the White Sox. No, not beacuse It looks like I'm jumping ship but because I'm from Chicago. In 2005 I rooted for the White Sox to win the World Series, after the Cubs were out of the playoffs. I even cheared when the Sox won. For the recored I was at the Cubs/Sox game at Wrigley this summer  and wore my Cubby blues. So here I am  on the world wide web and walking in the streets and I see Sox fans booing the Cubs. Telling us Cubs fans they suck, boo and variations of that. As so many out it they were, "Throwing salt in the wound."

To all you Sox fans who like to put down us Cubs fans who were cheering for you..."HA HA". You'r team is out too now. My other best friends are Sox fans but this isn't directed at them. This isn't directed to the Chicago Fans or the White Sox Fans who are civilized and root for the Cubs whent the White Sox are not playing. This is to the anoying White Sox Fans. "HA HA".

You know who you are. Your out now. Go cry. Boo hoo. I shed a tear for you.

After that... Chicago I now say LETS UNITE. It is the time of season we put our differenaces aside. Lets us put away our black and white caps and and red white and blue pinned stripped jerserys. Let's crack open the orange and blue shirts and cheer on DA BEARS.

Come Spring Chicago will be divided. Come Fall WE UNITE AS ONE!
SO heres to next year and a World Series that has both White Sox and Cubs in it!

I use to love snow

When I was a kid I loved snow. I loved to make forts. I loved to trade snowballs with my classmates and make a bussiness out of it. I loved sitting in the car while snow covered the glass. It was the little things that made snow great.
Now I hate it. I now have to worry drivng in it and getting in a crash. I have to worry plowing the streets of my work. I have to worry what to wear in it. I get cold and tired and it distractas me from other things. I know I'm getting old.
When does summer come along?
